Description: Version with French language subtitles of part of IWM 17 the NEW CRUSADERS Men of 1/8th Battalion, the Hampshire Regiment, 54th (East Anglia) Division, on Samson Ridge, resting and eating. Some of their officers have a gramophone in a sandbag shelter. Men of 1/4th Battalion, the Norfolk Regiment, in the front trenches preparing for the Second Battle of Gaza (?) on 19th April 1917, followed by a panorama of Gaza. A Royal Engineer officer directs the building of a railway line by British troops and members of the Egyptian Labour Corps. The engine is visible as they lay the track. Soldiers clear away rubble from a damaged well, with the winding gear broken (note the shadow of the cameraman). Motor transport moves down the main street of "Bir Es Sheba" (Beersheba) after its capture in November 1917. A Holt tractor pulls a large line-laying cart, followed by a camel train coming into the town. British troops bring Turkish prisoners in from the desert. Some soldiers enter damaged houses in Beersheba. A pile of Turkish rifles after the surrender of the town. A 6-inch 30cwt howitzer is fired under scrim netting. Troops of the Australian Mounted Division march past in column of troops. In the desert are soldiers with a pile of canteens. A 13-pounder anti-aircraft gun on a lorry mount is loaded and fired.
